Palestine Revealed:

Personal Stories

Palestinians look back on their family roots in Palestine and are astonished that anyone could have been taken in by Jewish claims that Palestine was ‘a land without people for people without a land.’ These galleries demonstrate scenes of everyday life in the lives of Palestinian individuals, such as official functions, mayoral duties, marriages, family gatherings - all the trappings of a vibrant and active society.

Social Scenes and Family Life

Faced with unprecedented numbers of Arab refugees from what had been Palestine, the United Nations set up an agency, UNWRA, to deal with problems of housing, food, employment and education.  Their photo archive shows UNWRA’s valiant attempts to cope with unprecedented numbers of people of all social classes suddenly deprived of their homes, their possessions and their freedom.
